According to the OSHA standard the proper disposal of sharp containers and contents includes either the pick up by a qualified sharps technician or the delivery of the container to an approved "red bag" or medical waste treatment site.
Technicians tested on bloodborne pathogens should then provide you with a certificate of disposal!
