The pockets are created to be used as one unit, as the hooks on the hanger are made to be hung on a door. You may try to attach the pockets separately with a nail or tack, however this item is not manufactured for single use. Some options that are made to be hung as individual file pockets or put together to create multiple pockets can be found at the link below:
