According to the manufacturer, the front section of SWI10134 - Stratus Acrylic Letter Sorter measurers 1 1/4". The back section measurers between 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" and holds about 35 average letters. The amount that each section will hold is dependent on the thickness of the materials you're sorting into the sections.
