Can this whiteboard be mounted the long way--with the 36 inch side going across from left to right and the 48 inch side going from the top to bottom?

According to the manufacturer, the marker tray on UNV43624 - Dry Erase Board, Melamine, 48 x 36 is attached to the board, and so mounting it vertically rather than horizontally is not recommended. The mounting hardware is separate, so if the location of the tray is not a problem for you, then it can, technically, be mounted vertically, if you prefer. However, if you'd like a board with a removable tray and which can be mounted either horizontally or vertically, we recommend item UNV44636, Dry Erase Board, Melamine, 48 x 36, Aluminum Frame.
