Hi Cary,
Thank you for your question about Universal Comfort Grip Deluxe Plus D-Ring View Binders. This is a great question. We're sorry these binders didn't work out for you. You can set up returns here.
Universal Binders are sized by the width of the spines, not the diameter of the rings. Binders are sized differently across brands. Some manufacturers measure according to the ring diameter, others like Universal, measure the spine. Others measure according to how many inches of paper the binder holds.
The best way to determine if a binder is the right size for your project is to check the sheet capacity. The sheet capacity is noted in the Item Specifications under the Product Details. For example, the UNV30756 binder can hold 950 pages. We carry a several white view binders that hold more, including:
- find It™ Gapless Loop Ring View Binder (1,050 Sheets)
- Cardinal® Antimicrobial ClearVue Locking Slant-D Ring Binder (1,100 Sheets)
- Samsill® Nonstick D-Ring View Binder (1,250 Sheets)
A binder's sheet capacity depends on the manufacturer and ring style, but this chart provides some general guidelines:
Round Ring Binders: hold the fewest pages. Unavailable in larger sizes. | D-Ring Binders: more durable and higher capacity than round ring binders. | Slant-Ring Binders: hold fewer pages D-ring binders, but are more durable. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

If you are concerned only about ring diameter, and not sheet capacity, Samsill, Avery, find It are a few of the brands that size according to ring diameter. Here are a few white view binders with 5" rings:
- Avery® Durable View Binder with Two Booster EZD Rings
- find It™ Gapless Loop Ring View Binder
- Samsill® Earth's Choice Biodegradable Angle-D Ring View Binder
Hope this answers your question!
Best,
Frankye
