I am retired from the Navy. We ordered and used this pen throughout my 21 years of service. We all had more fun tak 7520009357136, SKILCRAFT U.S. Government Ballpoint Pen, Retractable, Medium 1 mm, Black Ink, Black Barrel, Dozen Pens

I am retired from the Navy. We ordered and used this pen throughout my 21 years of service. We all had more fun taking them apart and removing the metal cap to see how many colors of the thumb buttons we could find. So, how many colors do they come in and was it a company idea to use many colors to drive us sailors nuts? Thanks

Hey Skip,

What a creative question about the GSA Government Ballpoint pens. Now I know I have heard all the questions about this beauty! Ok, so we did some checking with our good friends at the Ability One program and they said that at one time they did have multiple colors for the thumb button. They were not able to provide us with a time frame on when the thumb buttons were multiple colors or when they changed. They did say that all the thumb buttons are all white with a silver steel cover.

I satisfy my own curiosity I opened two separate packs (one blue medium point tip NSN3322833) and (one pack of black medium tip black NSN9357136). Believe it or not they all had the white thumb buttons.
