Toner cartridges hold just toner/ink while the drum units do the work in the printing process. Some printers have separate drum and toner cartridges while others have a combination drum/toner. Generally speaking, you can expect to use about three toner cartridges per drum when your printer has separate units. Each printer is different and it is important to check your manufacturer's specifications to see if you have a printer that use separate toner and drum cartridges or combo units.
