Thanks for your question.
Please follow the instructions below to insert your batteries.
1. Hold firmly to the gold trim band in the middle of the pen and unscrew the cap/laser pointer.
2. Install (3) 1.5V batteries (LR44 or equivalent) with the + side facing the tip of the pen/pointer and the - side facing the retractable button end.
3. Reassemble laser pointer to lower barrel.
